Here is the latest Ohio Vector-Borne disease update from the Ohio Department of Health:

As of 07/01/2021, 2,544 pooled mosquito samples (81,905 Culex spp. total) have been tested for West Nile Virus (WNV). Of the 2,544 pooled samples tested so far, 8 samples have tested positive for WNV. The positive samples are from:

  • Franklin County (including Columbus Public Health): 7 positive samples
  • Lucas County: 1 positive sample

No human cases of WNV have been reported.

The Ohio Department of Health has suggested that communities please consider increasing community and public education focused on personal protection to avoid mosquito bites and source reduction to prevent mosquito breeding.
